These are three outstanding Canadian choral programs and all three have been quite active during the pandemic. I think this will be an excellent source of information and inspiration.

CONCERTS DURING A PANDEMIC: A ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION

About the Presenters….

Robert Colbourne is a passionate choral music teacher from Newfoundland and Labrador where he is both the choral director at Holy Heart High School and an associate conductor with Shallaway Youth Choir. His choirs have been recognized as winners of the National Music Festival of Canada as well as 3 time winners of Canada’s Music Class Challenge. Robert’s “the show must go on” attitude has given students new and exciting opportunities during the pandemic and has enabled his choirs to continue to grow and flourish during this unprecedented time.

Carrie Tennant is the founder and Artistic Director of the Vancourver Youth Choir and an Affiliate Conductor with the Vancourver Chamber Choir. Previously, Carrie has held conducting positions with Chor Leoni, EnChor, the Coastal Sound Youth Choir, and the Sarah McLachlan Youth Choir. Carrie’s choirs have been featured at Chorus America, Podium (Choral Canada), and National ACDA conferences, and have twice been awarded First Place in the National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs.

Choral Canada Past President, Kellie Walsh is the Artistic Director of Shallaway Youth Choir, Founder and Artistic Director of Lady Cove Women’s Choir, as well as Co-Founder and Artistic Director Emeritus of Newman Sound Men’s Choir. Most recently, Shallaway’s senior ensemble received a first and second place win in the prestigious Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod, where they also won 2015 Children’s Choir of the World.
