Heidi Wood | Director

Lord Beaverbrook High School is located in Calgary, Alberta with approximately 900 students in Grades 10-12. The school has a long tradition of offering amazing opportunities to their students including outstanding programs in the fine and performing arts. There are approximately 100 students involved in music at Lord Beaverbrook. With three bands and three choral groups, students are offered every opportunity to get involved in music.

Hard Choral Vocal Jazz Ensemble, with its 10 members, is made up of dedicated grade 10, 11, and 12 students that meet twice a week. Under the direction of Heidi Wood, Hard Choral explores everything from jazz standards and improvisation, to pop, a cappella, swing, and Latin styles.

Hard Choral are regularly sought out to perform at community and special events. In 2018 Hard Choral was chosen to perform as the Adjudicators’ Choice at the Cantando Festival in Whistler, BC and have been featured performers in 2017 and 2018 at the Canadian Rocky Mountain Festival in Banff, in 2016 at two Juno events, and the Choralfest Jazz Spotlight Concert at the Ironwood Stage in Calgary, AB. Hard Choral is very excited to be at the Canadian Rocky Mountain Festival again this year and to share and experience the wonderful music and community the Festival offers.
