Kristel Peters | Director
The Steinbach Regional Secondary School Chamber Choir is an auditioned group of Grade 11/12 students. These singers are passionate about music and learning. They come together in community to sing, play, learn and develop as young adults. The students put time in and outside of school hours to achieve a cohesive and unified performance. They work together to create a connected community of supportive friends while striving for artistic excellence together.
The Chamber Choir has an outstanding reputation in Steinbach, MB and beyond. They perform at many community concerts and events. In the past they have toured Europe, Cuba, Canada and the United States. They have been featured at the Rocky Mountain Festival with a showcase concert many times. We are so excited to sing for you again in 2018!
The choir is an award-winning ensemble and came back to Canada with a lot of gold hardware from the Heritage Music Festival in 2014 including Outstanding Choral Group (highest score at the Festival). This choir has represented their school and community, collaborating with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Prairie Voices, and Winnipeg Singers. They have participated in marvelous joint concerts including Carmina Burana and Mozart’s Requiem.
Kristel Peters took over the choral program at the Steinbach Regional Secondary School in 2005, and is currently directing five choirs, teaching Music Theory and organizing a full-scale biennial musical. For Peters, life beyond the classroom includes solo work, leading choir clinics/workshops throughout Canada and the USA, playing with her twin toddler boys, shoes, and travelling and singing with professional choir, The Winnipeg Singers. Kristel enjoys getting outdoors and plays ladies’ league golf every summer and loves a good competition.
