ihana Youth Choir is an exciting and vibrant vocal ensemble for singers ages 14 – 22 who have a passion for choral music. The choir rehearses three hours a week, providing an opportunity for youth in the Red Deer area to strive for a high level of musical artistry while singing in a supportive and encouraging environment. This energetic, close-knit group of teenagers and young adults work together to enrich their own lives and the lives of everyone they meet through song and community.
ihana is a Finnish word that means wonderful, marvelous, and is a fitting way to describe this choir and their recent experience in Nelson, BC at the 3rd bi-annual VoicesWest Festival. ihana sang with 300 voices from western Canada and will meet again May 16-18, 2016 when they will perform as a mass Choir to open for Podium in Edmonton. Podium is a biannual National Choral Music Conference sponsored by ACCC and ihana is thrilled to be a part of this event.
During the spring of 2016 ihana will be a Showcase choir in Sun Peaks, BC and Banff, AB where they will perform for the Cantando Music Festival and Canadian Rocky Mountain Festival.
